Taking medroxyprogesterone tablets with other medicines and herbal supplements

Some medicines can affect the way medroxyprogesterone tablets work.

Tell your doctor if you're taking any of these medicines before starting to take medroxyprogesterone tablets:

• rifampicin, an antibiotic
• medicines to treat HIV or hepatitis C
• carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital (phenobarbitone) or primidone, medicines for epilepsy
• warfarin, a medicine to help prevent blood clots

Do not take St John's wort, a herbal remedy used for depression, with medroxyprogesterone. It can affect the way medroxyprogesterone works.

There's not enough information to say that other complementary medicines, herbal remedies and supplements are safe to take with medroxyprogesterone. They're not tested in the same way as pharmacy and prescription medicines. They're generally not tested for the effect they have on other medicines.
